My Son Was Finally Home

Image
My son went back home to the Philippines earlier than expected.  It was a pleasant surprise though as I am really looking forward to see him and to have him with us for the holidays.  We picked him up from the airport on the 13th of December, just in time for our wedding anniversary the following day. Although his Dad was not here to celebrate this very important day, I was happy enough that my son came home to give me a company on this very special occasion. His sister was having her OJT which is a requirement in school so without my son, probably I was alone that date. :)

It was a day well spent with him and he gave me a treat on our wedding anniversary ( a good substitute for his Dad) indeed.  We just hang out in his favorite coffee shop and had a simple dinner afterwards with her younger sister.  I have proven once again that a grand celebration is not necessary to be complete.  A good dinner and coffee with people who matters most to you is in itself complete.
I thank God for this…

Business As Usual

Image
I had lots of inquiries for cakes and cupcakes as early as November, this gave me the thought that Filipinos are really looking forward to Christmas season.  I was extra happy that my son was now here at home to help me with all the baking tasks.  Undeniably, my son is very good at designing, he has a great artistic skills and I can't help admiring him for that.  Sometimes, our customers would request for this and that design for their cup cake toppers and it was not an easy job, I tell you. Creating these designs for fondant cup cakes is a very complicated process, and I would say...time consuming.  You need to have a passion for what you do, otherwise you will give up.  There are times, we sleep so late just to finish all the orders.  At any rate, our consolation with what we do is when customers appreciated our efforts and compliment our designs and the taste of the cakes, of course.  Here are  some of the baked goodies we did for our beloved customers:

I really love to bake.  I…

Our Buma Hotel Experience At Subic

Image
I was watching an episode of "Home Sweetie Home" at ABS-CBN last Sunday and I was surprised to see that Buma Hotel in Subic was included in their location shoots.  This suddenly reminded me that I am yet to do a review of our Buma Hotel experience.  We stayed in this family-friendly hotel in Olongapo for a quick R&R.Since we are from Olongapo, going in and out of Subic Bay is as easy and fast as a breeze.  I am just happy that we have this opportunity to live in an area where there is a nearby tourist destination.  I knew for a fact that there are lots of people from Manila and other nearby towns who regularly visit Subic and it's so many attractions.  For now, I am just happy to share with you two weekends spent at Buma Hotel.  Yes, two weekends because this happened on two different dates.
It was a lazy boring day when my daughter suddenly asked me if we can go for an afternoon swim.  I asked her if she already have a place in mind, of course I was thinking that it…

Can Music Help Us Relax?

I was not so inclined with music and the arts.  In fact, these are two of my most hated subjects in the elementary and high school days.  I don't sing well, I mean I could carry a tune but my voice only fits to some specific songs.  I don't even know how to play any musical instrument, not even one. Too sad but it's true.  One of my frustrations is to be able to play a guitar but it never happened in my lifetime (wink). But don't get me wrong, though I couldn't sing well, I love listening to music.
Can music help us relax? Well....definitely! I for one, normally resorts to listening to music whenever I feel sad.  In the same manner, I also listen to music whenever I feel happy. Music can cater to all types of emotions.  I love listening to instrumental music, too especially when I am having a full body massage, it's really soothing!
For those of you who are into music and love to play musical instruments, you can click here to go to musiciansfriend.com , I thin…

Dealing With Nuisance Neighbors

I wonder if there's a law in the Philippines about dealing with nuisance neighbors, I've heard that in other countries like UK, there is.  I had just been from a series of stressful situations where I had to go to the Barangay to seek for a resolution.  Actually, they are not my own neighbors, but the neighbors of my tenants in our rental property but since they are under my responsibility and that they keep on bugging me about their problems, I have no other option but to make a stand. First, about the noise of the generator which is owned by my tenants.  They were harassed, shouted and embarrassed just because they switch it ON. Was that wrong? I don't think so. Well, if it is, don't they know how to approach and talk in a more civilized manner? Do they really have to resort to that? Second, their dog cage which was placed beside the fence in their own yard.  The nuisance neighbor was ordering them to relocate it.  For God sake, how could anyone interfere in on how t…

How Much Are You Willing To Spend On Your Passion?

I've been asking this question a number of times because I've seen a lot of collectors spending huge amount of money buying stuff for their collection, and what do we get out of it? Satisfaction...of course!  Indeed, there's no price tag to happiness.  Your passion could be in gardening, home decor, sports, books or music.  I myself is hooked into gardening and home decorating, but the question, how much I am willing to spend for this depends on whether it would be beneficial in the end?
For example, in the case of gardening, I believed that if I am able to tend a beautiful garden at home, I would be less interested going out of the house coz my home would already be a beautiful sanctuary and a perfect place for me to relax and unwind. That translates to saving money that I am supposed to spend elsewhere every time I get out of the house.  Apart from that, if I go for vegetable gardening, I would be saving an extra amount for my grocery budget especially that vegetables can…

Farming and Gardening Support Group

I think I had mentioned here a couple of times that I am now a stay at home Mom and although I have been separated from my corporate job more than 2 years ago, I still enjoy being a freelance worker.  Earning on your own time is really something you could be proud of. I got an early retirement but that's only to free myself from office politics, being productive, earn and save are still part of my plan. I'm no too old after all. :)
While I was browsing online, I saw this farming and gardening enthusiasts support group. It's a closed group so you need to send a request to become a member. I was curious enough so I did request to become a member.  There, I saw people from different parts of the country willingly share their tips and their own experiences as a farmer or a gardener.  Whether you are operating a farm or just tending your own backyard garden, there's a lot of things to learn from other people sharing the same interest. I haven't really gone that far into …

Farewell My Dear Lucio

Image
It's more than a month now since we lost our fur baby Lucio, he died because of renal failure. The first time we saw some problems in him, was during the time my son was vacationing in the Philippines.  We noticed that he urinates frequently and in small amounts only, thus we brought him to his Vet who recommended him to have a complete blood test.  That time, we made a wrong decision because we thought that his illness was not that serious and maybe just a normal UTI, so we urged the Vet to just prescribe an appropriate antibiotic for Lucio which she did.  After that medication, we noticed a slight improvement in him.  A couple of months after that, we noticed again that he is having some difficulty urinating. This observation was followed by his becoming less active than before and suddenly, he lost his appetite and would not eat anything for 3 straight days.  That was the time that we get alarmed.  We brought him again to the Vet for the complete blood test.  The result was so …

Identifying Those Unexpected Responsibilities

When you buy a new boat, you expect to have to buy replacement marine parts at some point. But did you expect to have to pay for having mussels scraped off your boat by a contractor? Some of the most important purchases in a person's life come with little surprises that they would never expect, but could wind up costing a lot of money. Before you buy some of these items, you may want to learn a bit about the full scope of what you will be getting into.
Buying A Home
When you buy a home, you expect to pay your mortgage, taxes and property repair bills for as long as you own the property. But did you know that you may also have to pay for garbage pick-up as well? In some communities, garbage pick-up is part of their yearly tax bill. But for communities that use privatized refuse collection companies, there may be a separate bill to pay for garbage pick up. You should also know that some communities hand out fines to homeowners who put their garbage out for pickup a day or two early.

Easy and Simple Ways to Conserve Water At Home

The heat of summer is now felt everywhere and people are getting busy either complaining with the rotating black out or having an outing elsewhere.  Actually long ago and maybe until today, I really love summer.  This is the perfect time  to go for picnics and outings and I love all the foods during summer especially the fruits in season.  However, because of the global warming, summer now is not as good as what it used to be before.  The weather is extremely hot and more often, you will get irritated when you go outdoors, so most of the time you would probably prefer to stay home.
Another problem confronting us during summer is water shortage and this is especially true on some cities and provinces.  I feel lucky that water crisis is not strongly felt in our city but it is, on other towns and provinces particularly on Mindanao area.  As a result, the livelihood of many farmers are being affected because of the dry spell and this is not good for everyone.
In the midst of all these probl…

Living the Lifestyle of a True Music Fan with Clothing, Accessories, and More

People who are fans of punk rock music often go to notable extremes to make their affinity for this genre known to others. They not only listen to the music itself; they also dress the part of a punk rock music devotee. When you are one of the countless fans of this style of music, you too can showcase your devotion to the genre with apparel like tripp pants, t-shirts, shoes, and more. All of the clothing, accessories, and other gear that you need to dress the part can be found online.

Punk Rock Clothing

Clothing that matches this style of music looks noticeably different than traditional, mainstream clothing. The pants, for example, come with numerous zipper pockets up and down the legs. They also come with tapered legs that can be fit into boots and pleated waistbands that can accommodate undershirts being tucked into them.
Along with pants, you can also find t-shirts, jackets, and many other styles of clothing for sale online. The shirts bear the names of popular bands. They also are …

Dealing With Sciatic Pains

I had been experiencing some pains at my lower back down to the buttocks and down the back of my right leg.  It's been on and off for almost 3 months now and at times, I already get depressed especially when I had severe pain attacks at night.  It all started when we are having our home improvement projects starting December of last year.  The first Doctor who specializes in rehabilitation medicine whom I have consulted with a month ago told me that my symptoms mostly points to muscle spasms brought about by stress and over fatigue.  He advised me to go a therapy for 2 weeks which I purposely did not complete as I am not satisfied with the way the therapist handled me.  He also prescribed me some medicines which didn't work for me at all.
The pain continues for another month and I do sometimes get a hot stone massage which sometimes gives me a temporary relief.  It was only this week that I've decided to ask for second opinion.  I was greatly disturbed by the pains especial…

A Night of Fun and Music

Image
It's been a month since we had our Videoke night but until now, I still can't get away from the fun and excitement that we had during the night.  It was actually a treat of my son Edmar to his Dad who had celebrated his birthday last 9th of February.  The night was filled with fun and music. We are not a family of singers although my daughter sings well and could play guitar.  That videoke bar is plain and simple but we had loads of fun.  I wouldn't say that the sound system is great, it would had been much better if they had mad professor but since it was our first time as a family to visit a KTV, the quality of the sound system doesn't affect our "happy mood" at all.

It's good that the cost of the room is consumable so we were able to feast with foods and drinks. This has been one of the highlights of hubby and son's home leave and we are very grateful that we can get this opportunity to be complete as a family.

Lucio's 4th Birthday

Image
Time flies so fast! Our baby Lucio has already turned 4 last Feb 26.  This adorable fur baby has already been a part of our daily lives since the first day that we've acquired him.  He maybe naughty at times but he remains to be a darling.  Compared to our other baby (Marcus), he is more "moody" and unpredictable but I admire how he constantly serves as our protective army.  Do you know that nobody could come to the house when he is around?  We have to hide him at times when we expect some visitors coming to the house.  When he is in front of the house, our terrace in particular, he would bark at anyone standing outside the gate or fence.  He really had a strong sense of smell and would always alert us for any noise that he would hear outside the house day or night.  There was a time he was feeling sick but we would still see him ran towards the main door when he suspected that someone is outside.  That's how loyal and protective he is to us.

Now that he is four, we a…

2015... A Year of Great Surprises

Image
It has been my tradition to write a year end review on January of every year,  I am just so excited to make a careful evaluation of what had transpired in my life for the past year be it good or bad.  It's my way of looking back to correct what was wrong and to be grateful for every little accomplishments that I had.
2015 has been a crazy year, yet I consider this one of my best years.  It's quite hard to document every bit of thing that happened to me the entire year but I would gladly list down what seemed to be the highlights of this year to me personally, and to my family as well.
1.)  My Daughter Mika's 18th Birthday

My only daughter celebrated her 18th birthday January 4 (gosh, it's exactly 1 year today) and as promised, we've organized a simple yet meaningful debut party for her.  It took us several months to do the planning and preparations. Many things need to be considered such as the budget, venue, party theme, foods, guests and the program.  It was a hard …
