Happiness Is A Decision

I think it would be a great way to start the week by sharing some positive thoughts.  I was actually thinking of  a topic to write when it suddenly crossed my mind about a previous conversation with my Boss.  I think we are talking about employees who keep on transferring from one job to another.  I would just like to share my views here which also has something to do with how I am now.

Going back to the conversation with my Boss, I told him that I don't have anything against those who would like to move from one job to another, it's their choice.  Maybe they wanted to get a bigger salary, more benefits, a new environment, a new challenge or anything of that sort which I vehemently agree.  Every individual has different needs, different dreams, different behaviors and different feelings.  He then replied, "Yes, but not every six months or every year.  That's strange!"  Well, personally, I also wouldn't agree on transferring from one place to another in a very short period of time.  I have lots of reasons for this, for one it's not that easy to relocate, second, you have to undergo a major transformation again and it sickens me. I've also mentioned before that I hate to take risks.  When we move to a new place, that should be carefully studied.  Everything should be taken into a consideration. A lot of factors should come in.  This is exactly what I have done before I move on to a new company.  I do a lot of research about the place that I have to go and it's not easy.  In my case, I always stay long in each company I worked with.  A major factor should come in before I decide to move and that's it!  I told my Boss that happiness is a decision and he asked me what do I mean by that.

My answer is simple.  When I go to a new place, I begin to look for the good things about the place and I never concentrate on the bad things.  For me, every job, every company and every place has it's own set of flaws and we can't simply get rid of it.  If we continue to search for a perfect place, a perfect job, perfect workmates, perfect staff, perfect Boss, then chances are, we will never stop searching till the rest of our lives as perfect place never really exists in this world.  If we start to concentrate on the good things, then we will slowly condition ourselves to like the place where we are and the kind of job that we have until that we get used to it and everything gets into place.  When I transferred to where I am now, I did not have any idea that this place is a suburb. It will be very inconvenient for some as there are no churches, malls, supermarkets, decent restaurants, and other luxurious activities to engage with. But I didn't see it that way.  I saw that there is a bigger opportunity to save money in this kind of place as you have no reason to spend other than the purchase of your basic necessities. I just content myself with occasional trips to a nearby city every two to three months to buy things that I need and to get a bit of pampering.  After all, I am here to work!

To me, happiness is a decision. It is a mindset.  The moment we decide to accept things as they are, then we can slowly find happiness in those things and make use of them to our advantage.  Out of boredom, I've learned how to blog, I found a hobby, I gained online friends and the best part of it, it augments my income more than what I expect.  If I wasn't staying in a place like this, and there's plenty of places to go and spend money with, I shouldn't be writing this post now. :)

There's always a reason for everything and the moment we find that reason, we will learn to understand things more in a proper perspective.  Find good things in everything and good things will come to you. :)

Lastly, don't forget to ask the Lord for guidance. He will surely show you the way.  In my journey to life, I always ask for God's guidance whenever I'm not so certain of what decisions to make and He never fails to show me the way.

A blessed week to everyone.

Maybe there are some problems in your company's management and needs to address to prevent the resignation of your employees every six months.

I agree with you sis. Happiness is a choice. It doesn't need to have everything we want. it doesn't matter if our life isn't perfect. It's the way we look at our life and staying positive even if the most difficult situations. I always believe that god knows what's best for us so I trust Him.

I agree with you sis. Happiness is a choice. And they say if the kitchen is too hot for you, you get out of the kitchen. But before you get out, you have to wait it out and exert some effort at least. :)

thanks for that wonderful quote. Every time I am surrounded with negativity, I take a deep breath and think happy thoughts. It is tough, believe me, and I still have to master it...

thanks for sharing this. i agree with you, happiness is indeed a decision, a choice. about the job, i also don't have anything against those who choose to hop from one job to another, but in my personal experience, i never did that. in fact, i stayed in my latest employer for 8 years. had i not gotten married and now have a child, i might have stayed in that company until now. but, like the topic said, happiness is a decision and i've never been much happier now that i am a stay at home wife and mom, and that is a choice. :-)

It's a beautiful quote that made me think hard. Instead of being discontent with my life, I should be glad and decide to be happy instead.

I guess some people job hop because their expectations are not met or they simply found a better job too soon. You are right, the choice to move or to stay should always be under His guidance and blessings. Sometimes, it's better to take roots first and see the fruits rather than jumping ship at the slightest sign of trouble.

I agree with everything you said. We sure need to decide that we are happy with wherever we are, with our decisions that are guided by God. I find myself asking myself sometimes, why am I here? Why did I decide to be a mom? And then I would counter my own thoughts saying, a lot of people are not as blessed as I am with a loving husband and wonderful children. I should not complain. :-)
