Take Hold Of Every Moment!

Another month is almost gone! July is here to come. So I would just like to make a brief reflection about holding each moment of our lives.

Do we treat each day in our lives as a special occasion? Do we keep our special perfume for a special day? Do we keep our best dress in our closet and wait for a special moment to wear it? Are we saving our best dinner wares for a special event? Well...if you are doing this, it's normal as majority of people do. I myself was guilty of doing this before. I always stack up things in my closet and save them for future use. My Mom used to have this habit as well. Whenever I buy something for the house, she would straight away keep them until that we cannot find it! (lol). But as I go along with life, I discovered so many things. I just realized that I should not delay or postpone anything that could bring joy and laughter to my life.

Now...whenever I feel like want to eat a particular kind of food, if I have the means to get it, I straigh…

Today's Morning Reflection!

Time flies so fast! I'm still having some good thoughts about my recent vacation to the Philippines and at Hoh Chih Min City with the kids and before I knew it, one day more and it's going to be July!

We have to face another month of life's challenges and hopes for a better future! With this in mind, I would just like to share an inspiring quote:

"God has made life so good that even if we don't enumerate all that we need everyday, we realize that He continues to give what's best for us!"

In my case, it's very true! For the past one and a half month since I came back to my work here, so many things had already happened! Some days are good, some days are bad. Some moments I'm feeling high, some moments I'm feeling so low. I guess, it's normal! This is what life is all about. When God gave us this life, He never promised a smooth road all the way but He did promise to be around when we need Him for guidance. I'm also thinking if ou…

A Day After The Storm!

Oh well....I was able to breathe properly after hearing from my daughter in the Philippines that raining already subsides. Well..there's still occasional rains but not as strong as the previous days. But our pet "Kafi" is still sick. My daughter had decided to bring her to the Veterinarian tomorrow for the necessary treatment.

I am actually feeling low today, having head ache and not enough sleep as I jump to afternoon shift. After work, as usual, I spent sometime watching a Korean series on my DVD. But of course, blogging will never be neglected.

Feeling a bit hungry as I skipped dinner at work, I've decided to cook some soup as this would be the fastest to prepare at this hour.

Well...this has been my life as an OFW, I have to take care of all my personal needs. Luckily, I discovered blogging. This has been a great outlet for me to entertain myself and to meet some online friends. The truth is, I always resort to blogging whenever I'm feeling blue. …

Typhoon In The Philippines!

I've been constantly following the news from CNN particularly the weather update as I'm totally aware that Philippines was again hit by strong typhoons, one after the other. I've been hearing news from my kids that our hometown was also affected as classes had been suspended for a couple of days already on all levels. in situations like this, I cannot help but to worry. My house is situated in the village which is a flood prone area and although I'm quite confident that my house is completely secured, I can't help but to worry. If those streets outside our house were flooded, it would be difficult for the kids to go to school and attend to some errands like buying stuff for the house, etc.

I just wish that situation will improve by tomorrow. Also because of this typhoon, we might lose our dear pet, "Kafi" whom I heard is currently very sick. My daughter was so sad when she told me that her favorite pet is getting weaker and weaker as this had not eat…

Nature Trip 03 - Lotus Plants

Amazing sight of lotus plants floating in the mud of shallow ponds of Dam Sen Theme Park at HCMC! I've seen a lot of Lotus plants here in Cambodia and in Vietnam. I remembered the first time I cross the river through a ferry on my way to Phnom Penh from Svay Rieng province, I've seen a lot of lotus flowers and seeds being sold on side streets. Lotus seeds are known as the longest viable seeds and these are being eaten in Cambodia. The first time I saw it, I never knew it was lotus. The flowers of lotus are wide and attractive. It has lots of petals and mostly pink in color. In some countries like India, both the leaves and stems can be eaten. I also happened to buy some lotus tea bags at Hoh Chih Min. I guess Lotus plants are sacred in Buddhist religions as these are mostly a part of their arts and culture.

A Day At The Ice Palace!

I just wish to recall how difficult it is to take photos inside the Ice Palace at Hoh Chi Min's Dam Sen Theme Park but since my two children are both addicted to picture taking, we still manage to take so many shots inside, amidst the very cold temperature :)

We've been to the same attraction at Star City in Manila but my kids said, the ice structures featured at Damsen is far better. The area is also quite huge and before you can finish exploring it, you will feel that you can't hardly move your fingers anymore and your jaw seems to be locked (lol). In fact, I ran out since I cannot stand to stay inside any longer :) Hahaha!!

At any rate, going there was a good experience and we all had a great time!

Patience Is A Virtue!

If there's one thing that I would like to adopt into my system, I would say, it's "patience". Sad to say, I'm not that patient enough. I easily get annoyed with something and I had difficulty controlling my temper, at times. But now, as I mature, I'm able to improve it a bit, although not exactly how I wanted to but...I'm getting there!

I think "patience" is a virtue. Without it, we cannot endure life's challenges and hardships. There are times that things are not going "our way", and more often, it will take you a long time before things happen as how you expect them to be. I've been through a lot of difficulties because I'm not patient enough. If I only know how to wait, things will get a lot better, I supposed. Now, I'm sounding like a bit melancholic because things are not going "my way". But at the back of my mind, I'm trying to convince myself that if I'm really up into something, then I…

Nature Trip 02 - Cactus Garden At Dam Sen!

These photos were taken from Damsen's Cactus Garden at HCMC! See the giant cactus around the area? I once was hooked in collecting cactus planted in various pots of small sizes but for unknown reasons, I lose my collection. Maybe because I'm not fully aware of how to take care of them. I just only know that cactus requires a little bit of water only and must be under direct sunlight.

Hmmm.. maybe this is not for me, so now I actually shifted to collecting orchids and I've just started with it! Hope I will be successful, this time. :)

Wish me luck!

Get Well Soon Mom!

A couple of days ago, my Mom was brought back to her Ortho to remove her arm cast. This arm cast was on for about three weeks and I knew exactly how much she is suffering because of this. She can't hardly move around the house and cannot do her daily routine. My daughter Mikz had to bathe her at times, when needed.

Now, her arm cast was already removed and she's just waiting for her full recovery at home. She still cannot close and open her right hand freely same like before and doctor advised her to do some hand exercises using a "stress ball".

I just hope that everything will get back to normal soon. I am praying for this.

This is the wooden rosary that I bought in front of Notre Dame Cathedral when we visited there last May.

I always hold this every night until I fall asleep with a sincere prayer that everything will turn out well for my Mom, soon.

Get well soon, Mom!

All In One Desk Top PC!

Today, I jumped to morning shift, thus having only about more than 4 hours of sleep. I've been sleeping late the past few days and now that I'm able to take a nap after work is such a relief.

Feeling lazy today and don't know exactly what I have to take for dinner so ended up with a plate of spaghetti and a piece of baguette. (lol)

I've been busy lately scouting for a PC to replace the laptop in my house which according to my kids was already beyond repair after it's screen was totally down. My son told me that the computer technician advised them not to use laptop in the house anymore and switched to desk top since they are heavy computer users and a laptop cannot withstand long hours of use. So my son now is urging me to get a desk top instead of laptop. But the problem is I no longer welcome the idea of having a desk top with all those space consuming peripherals.

So I begin to search for some new designs which are more light and compact. My online search le…

Nature Trip 01 - Flowers In Bloom!

Just can't help but share these lovely photos of flowers in full bloom, taken from Dam Sen Theme Park Hoh Chi Min City. I love those vibrant colors! If you are there to see these nice views personally, you will feel that "nature tripping" is one good activity to relax your mind and soul.

From this post onwards, I would be happy to feature "nature trip photos" that I've personally taken. A nature lover myself, I would admit that every time I see these photos, it reminds me that I should take part in taking care of our environment. After all, this world is still a happy place to live in :)

Hope you too, will take your share in caring for the environment!

Happy Thursday!

Soup On The Streets.... Vietnam Style!

I am just thinking and wondering if this kind of sight would be applicable in Philippines :). In Vietnam, this is very common! Soup and coffee vendors are almost on every corner of the streets. If Filipinos are very fond of selling "palamig" or "sago't gulaman", whatever way you want to call it, Vietnamese on the contrary, love to sell "iced coffee". And while Filipinos love to sell "banana-Q" and "goto", for the Vietnamese, PHO or noodle soup is such a hit! Whether it's rainy season or dry season, selling noodle soup on side streets will always be a part of the Vietnam culture.

For the locals, this is a cheaper way to gather, talk and relax. I've tried this several times. I just loved their soup but I like iced coffee more. If I have the chance, I would love to learn some of their delicious snacks cooked in their own unique style.

I'm actually scouting for a Vietnamese cooking class and would definitely be happy t…

First Day Jitters!

I made a quick phone call to my kids before checking in for work, asking them how is their feeling now that they will finally be back to school. My son said he's fine but just feeling a little bit excited. I had a good laugh with how my daughter replied me. She said, she's so nervous, excited and cannot sleep (lol).

Well...that's what we call "first day jitters". There are actually so many factors why students get this kind of feeling on the first day of school. Just the mere thought of meeting new friends, classmates and teachers, attending the flag ceremony every morning, going to a new classroom, having new schedule and daily routine, eating lunch with friends, cramming with school projects and the head breaking reviews and doing homework is more than enough to make you sigh. But apart from these things, the good side of it is the excitement of wearing new school uniforms, new shoes, bringing new bags, sporting a new hair style and all those bits and piec…

Back To School!

June 13 marks the beginning of school year in the Philippines and just like any other kids, my two students in the house are both excited to go back to school. In fact, reading their emails and text messages to me, I cannot count exactly how many times they mention that they are fitting their new school uniforms. :)

In fact, since they were back to Philippines from their vacation at Hoh Chi Min last summer, They straight away bought all their school supplies and books. I'm so glad that both of them turned out to be disciplined and responsible children. I didn't remember any moment that they had given me any serious problem while I'm away for work. Though we're miles apart, they remained to be as disciplined and behaved as before when I'm staying with them in the Philippines. Nothing has changed and in fact, if there's something that changed, it's for the better. Why is that so? Because I could feel now that they become more independent compared to la…

Book Review - "Ang Buhay Na Hindi Bitin"

Months ago, I've made a review on "Ang Pera na Hindi Bitin" by Ardy Roberto, Jr. More than the review itself, I find pleasure reading the book and I'm happy to say that it turned out to be my most popular post. That only proves one thing, that many people now are becoming more and more conscious about financial management. At the back cover of this book, I found another title almost similar to the first one, "Ang Buhay na Hindi Bitin" from the same author.

Before I took my vacation last April, I did ask my son to get me a copy of the second book. Why not? If we are conscious enough to know how to manage our financial difficulties, then how much more our life's difficulties? I was actually expecting the book to be somewhat identical in size with the first one but to my surprise, my son texted me and told me that the book is only less than 30 pages and it only costs P10.00 per copy. That time, PCBS is even having a book sale, so my son got the book …

Trying New Facial Masks!

It was a long fine day! Today, I was able to have 12 hrs of sleep (lol). I did try to recover from the past days that I'm not able to have enough sleep. After I wake up, I took a light meal and coffee and do my usual facial which I normally do every other week. I'm not so rigid with this but I'm also thinking that women really need to take care of their skin. As what the saying goes, "you cannot stop yourself from getting old but you can delay the signs of aging." (lol!)

Kidding aside, I really believe in this. We really can delay the signs of aging and one important step is to take care of our skin. I'm not so particular about which brand to use and oftentimes, I just make use of what is available. If I don't have the facial masks and other facial cleansing creams at home, then I make use of the natural ones like fruits, olive oil, oatmeal, sea salt, lemons, etc. I just make my own mixture based from the recipes that I got from online researches.…

My Own Version Of Maja Blanca!

Today, I want to get away a bit from my normal routine of watching DVD and surfing online after work. So, I've checked on my pantry cabinet and found these:

So, I've decided to cook Maja Blanca. I'm also thinking that I will be on night shift already so having a readily available food from my ref would be a great idea. You see, I normally starve to death the moment I wake up and I should be having a little something to fill my stomach while I'm preparing for my "actual meal" :).

This is my own version of Maja Blanca. I never use coconut milk, instead I use only milk. It's a combination of condensed and evaporated milk or sterilized milk. Sometimes, I also use fresh milk, whatever is available in my cup board.

I also use cream style corn instead of kernel corn. For toppings, instead of "latik", I use cheese. This time I don't have the cheddar cheese, what I have is the soft cheese which is Vietnam made. It's quite soft so I wasn'…

I Love this Dog House!

I've mentioned on my previous posts how my daughter Mikz is very fond of dogs. She really loves dogs. In fact, during our recent trip to Hoh Chih Min, she insisted to buy some dog shampoos and dog foods for her little "Kafi", even my son opposed so much as they are already having a lot of stuff to bring home. But she still won! She was able to bring home the said stuff which she claimed to be her "pasalubong" to her puppy (lol).

She had also been expressing her desire to own a shitzu puppy since last year and she's so persistent about it which I always reply, "later...anak".
Seriously, I'm delaying this not only because it's quite expensive to buy one, but also maintaining that dog is quite an arduous task. The grooming accessories and foods are also expensive. Another consideration is the place where to put that puppy.

I'm a person who loves to tidy the house and I just cannot imagine having a dog roaming around the house. Bu…

Yummy Pancit Malabon

I'm thinking now of the ways and means to cook the Filipino foods that I truly missed. You see, some of the ingredients are not available in Cambodia and considering that I am not In Phnom Penh... so places to shop your needs is very limited. It's only fortunate that we have the Duty Free Shop at the Cambodia - Vietnam boarder so at least, we have an alternative. But what I like to cook is the traditional "Pancit Malabon".

Photo below is the "pancit malabon" that I cooked in the Philippines during my vacation. The problem is I cannot find the appropriate noodles for this and also I love to mix "tinapa flakes" in my own recipe but where can I get tinapa here? (lol). I think almost half of the ingredients are not available here in my place. So, I'm just wondering if any of the Filipino expats had already tried cooking this "pancit malabon" here. If there is any, please let me know :)

I know there is a way to cook this but I'…

Rain .... Rain Go Away!

Oh's raining quite hard here in my place. I was planning to go to the market to buy some breads and some toiletries late in the afternoon as I wanted to take a nap after work. Hmmm...I just had 4 hrs of sleep and I really feel sleepy. I took a nap then and I was awakened by the sound of the strong rain. I woke up because of the sound of the water splattered through the glass window of my room.

Because of this, my plan was shelved. I need to stay in the room. I just cooked a light dinner and had some Chinese tea after. I wanted to chat with my kids through SKYPE but they informed me that the internet connection in our house is not working properly and they cannot connect. So, I was left with no choice but to just watch my second Korean Tele Novela titled, "Alone In Love". I'm doing this while I'm surfing the internet. I don't know but I was just used to multi tasking. I'm not contented doing only a single thing at a time. For me, time …

Amazing Plant Art!

I love these lovely plant arts! These are some of the wonderful sight at the Botanical Garden in Saigon. My daughter Mikz had a great time having her picture taken with these lovely plants.

I wish I could do the same but for sure that these were done by the professionals! (lol) so it's quite impossible for me to make even a simple one. :) I have seen many of these at Saigon and I would say that Vietnamese people are really good in designing gardens. They love to decorate parks and there's plenty of this in Hoh Chi Min City alone.

How I wish to have a chance to visit the wonderful sceneries on other provinces particularly Halong Bay and Dalat.

I just love nature!

Hong Vy Hotel And The Agoda Booking!

On our recent trip to Hoh Chi Minh City, I booked our hotel through Agoda. I've chosen Hong Vy Hotel located at the Central District near the Ben Thanh Market. Well...the deals at Agoda were good. You will get points which can be converted to the equivalent amount in USD which can be use to pay for your next booking with them. Since our flight was late at night...actually considered early morning already, I felt that there is really a need to have an advance booking and the best way to do it is online.

I had some unfavorable experiences, though. I was surprised at the time that we checked in that there's no room available for us and looks like the staff at the reception never expects us. To my dismay we were put in a smaller room which I rightfully rejected. I complained non stop and even called the Hotel Manager late at night. Because of that, they were forced to find and prepare another room for us. We were asked to transfer to a better room on the 3rd day only to…

Random Thoughts

Well...recently, I cannot find the mood to blog about anything. I used to experience this the last time. When I feel like blogging, I really blog everyday but when this "mood" strikes me, I just felt like I cannot find anything to talk about. Maybe I just needed a break for few days. I guess we have to relax sometimes.

And get that much needed break, I just concentrate on watching a Korean Tele novela titled, "Shining Inheritance". I was hooked with the story that I never stopped watching this for almost a week until I finally completed it. Well... I just finished the entire series last night. Because of this, I slept at around 4 AM already :)'s worth it! The story is very interesting and you could get "real life's lessons". This is the first DVD that I watch since I get back to Cambodia on 20th last month. Hmmm...I still have more to go as I bought several during my vacation in the Philippines last April.

I'm already…
